The Geoffrey Leaver Marathon Relay is a great way for local people to get active with your friends, club-mates and work colleagues to raise money for your favourite charity.
The marathon relay event has formed part of the highly successful Milton Keynes Marathon since the inaugural event in 2012, and is now an integral part of the marathon event. However for 2015 the relay event is being opened up to clubs, charities, associations and even groups of friends in addition to local business.
Once again Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors are proud to be sponsoring the race that encourages friends, family, club-mates, businesses, associations and charities to come together and challenge each other for the prize of being the fastest or the best charity fundraisers at the Milton Keynes Marathon.
Race Director, Andy Hully, said, “The Geoffrey Leaver Marathon Relay is a fantastic event. It allows people to run in a mass participation event with colleagues, friends and club-mates whilst raising money for a good cause, getting fit and having fun.”
Stuart Snelson, partner at Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors, said, “We are delighted to once again sponsoring the MK Marathon Relay this year. It’s a great event that raises a great deal of money for a wide variety of worthwhile causes so I’m pleased that we can offer our support.
“I’m sure the atmosphere on the day at StadiumMK and around the course will be lively.”
Race organisers are now accepting entries for The Geoffrey Leaver Marathon Relay, which takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May 2015.
Teams of four will split the 26.2 mile distance with each member running approximately 6.5 miles of the marathon course before passing on the baton to the next member of their team. Awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd fastest teams, along with honourable mentions for the fastest male and female team members.
The relay event is characterised by a strong element of friendly competition as teams compete to be seen as the fastest or the best charity fundraisers. These titles represent not only an enviable PR title, but also bragging rights that last for a full year. Plus there’s great support around the course as local people come out in force to cheer on the runners.
Wendy McConnell, said of the 2014 marathon relay, “A Brilliant Day. The banter between teams and relay points was lovely.”
Whilst Nicky Saunders added, “Great to have the opportunity to work as a team in a completely different way! Really lovely medal!”
Entry into The Geoffrey Leaver Marathon Relay is currently just £100 for a team of four, and all relay teams are asked to raise money for a charity, or charities, of their choice.
Winning team captain Stuart Snelson of Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors is pictured presenting the team’s fundraising cheques to Stefanie Duffy of MK Dons Sport & Education Trust and Lorna O’Herlihy of Willen Hospice with Race Director Andy Hully.
Mr Snelson said, “Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors are proud supporters of Willen Hospice and we’re delighted that through the Geoffrey Leaver Marathon Relay we can continue to offer them our support for the amazing work that they do for patients and their families.”
Like last year, the relay teams will benefit from their own hospitality area overlooking the finish at stadiummk. This gives runners a place to relax and enjoy their pre-race morning before being taken to their handover point.
“It’s a great opportunity for groups of friends and business colleagues who feel they may not be able to run the full marathon distance to get involved in one of the major days in Milton Keynes’ 2015 sporting event calendar and raise money for good causes,” said Mr Hully
