Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire— Mark your calendars for the weekend of 1-2 May 2022, when the Milton Keynes Marathon Weekend will return to an amazing stadium finish inside the impressive StadiumMK. Registration is now open for the Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay, and Superhero Fun Run, which are all set to finish inside the iconic stadium. The Rocket 5K will finish on the perimeter road as usual.
“After a challenging couple of years, we can’t wait to get back to our normal event line-up,” Race Director Andy Hully said. “Providing our participants with the opportunity to run in the footsteps of legends is part of what makes the Milton Keynes Marathon so special and there’s no better way to do that than crossing the finish line inside StadiumMK.”
‘The Legends’ are participants who have completed five or more Milton Keynes Marathons (need not be consecutive) and earn an extra special medal.
“The last few years have presented one big challenge after another and our team responded with flexibility and ingenuity,” Hully said. “Through it all, our main goal stayed the same: to motivate our community to get outside and run. We did that in 2020 with our ‘Reimagined’ event, where runners took on a fixed route anytime over a two-week period using way markers and voice navigation. We also had to do it a little differently in 2021, with one of the first big socially distanced events in late June, so even just the thought of getting everyone back together in 2022 is exciting. Returning to our awesome stadium finish is icing on the cake!”
We are going back to our popular 2016-2019 race routes with a single-lap marathon course. Additionally, due to the popularity of our virtual race experiences, the Milton Keynes Marathon will provide a virtual option in 2022 for those who cannot travel or would prefer to do the race from home. Stay tuned for more announcements later this year regarding medals, race village, and community partnerships.
