We need your help to make the everydayhero Milton Keynes Marathon and Geoffrey Leaver Marathon Relay happen and ensure all the participants have a fantastic time.
In 2014 five hundred volunteers got involved and had a great time making the everydayhero Milton Keynes Marathon a wonderful success for both runners and spectators. The event was named amongst the top 10 marathon races in the UK by readers of Runner’s World magazine and website and was awarded the BARR Bronze Award for organisation and planning excellence.
The MK Half Marathon was been added to the event in 2014, which like the marathon is on a traffic-free course and finishes in StadiumMK. The 2014 event also includes the ever popular Superhero Fun Run and the Geoffrey Leaver Marathon Relay. As a result, this year race organisers are looking to put together an even bigger volunteer team to help guide the runners around the course, see them across the finish line and help local residents.
People are needed for a variety of roles including marshaling along the route and helping out at the stadium start and finish area.
Race Director, Andy Hully, said, “We couldn’t put on this flagship sporting event without the support of our volunteers. We really do appreciate the fact that people willingly give up their time to help make the MK Marathon one of the top 10 marathons in the UK.
We have lots of opportunities this year for people to join in and really make a difference to those that are running.”
As a volunteer you will receive a packed lunch as well as an Event Crew T-Shirt to wear on the day. And to thank you for all your hard work, you will receive a Medal at the end of your shift plus an invite to our Event Crew Thank You Party, which will be held on Saturday 9th May in Milton Keynes.
Volunteers for the event should be aged 16 or over, although younger children can help out if they are supervised by an adult who is also registered to volunteer.
Online registration for individual volunteers and groups is available. Groups of friends, family, Scouts, Girl Guides, running groups and local football teams are particularly welcomed. Groups of volunteers should register for the same role and add their club, company or charity and then we will place them as close together as possible.
“Volunteers don’t need to be experienced, as they’ll be fully briefed on their role before the day. They just need lots of enthusiasm and enjoy working as part of a team. The great thing about volunteering is that people can also make new friends or support local and national charities,” said Mr Hully.
