Join the Milton Keynes Marathon team of volunteers

In 2013 we had over 450 Event Crew who worked really hard to put on a fantastic day for the runners.

There are numerous roles that need filling by keen volunteers looking to be part of the race day experience.

An event of this scale takes a huge amount of manpower. Volunteer roles range from handing out water along the route to working at the finish area handing out medals to runners.

Plus of course a huge thank you from us and the sense of satisfaction from being involved in the MK Marathon.

We ask the volunteers to be available at a specified time on race day and to be on duty for no more than 6 hours (including a ½ hour break). They will also be required to attend a briefing meeting before the event and to agree to our stewarding regulations. If they live outside the area and are unable to attend the briefing meeting this can be done on race day.

Volunteer Band 1 : 8am to 2pm
Volunteer Band 2 : 10am to 4pm
Volunteer Band 3 : 12pm to 6pm
Volunteer Band 4 : All day

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Baggage: Baggage will be located in doors in the Arena. Take bags from participants at the start and make sure they have the bib number displayed clearly. Stack bags in bib number order and return them to the runners when they finish.

Course marshals: Ensure safety at intersections and direct runners along the course. Arrival time and duration of commitment will vary depending on course location.

Crowd control: Direct participants to where they need to go and prevent congestion at start and finish areas.

Entertainment: We require lots of varied entertainment at the stadium and en route. There will be a ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition in 2013, where runners vote for the most inspiring band or dance act and the winning group will receive £500!

Goody Bags: Set-up and distribution goody bags to participants in finish area after they complete the race. The goody bag area will be inside the Arena.

Medals: Give runners their much deserved medals when they cross the finish line.

Pacers: Pacers are the heroes of the Milton Keynes Marathon. These experienced marathoners will run the race at the right pace to meet their designated target time, be it sub-3 hours or sub-5 or points in between.

Registration: We need volunteers to help run a registration desk to answer questions and give out non-UK runner packs.

Photographers: Help us capture the excitement of race day by taking photos at the start/finish or on the course.

Distributing and Retrieving Supplies: We need volunteers with a van or truck to help distribute and retrieve supplies to hydration stations and for other needs along the course.

Set-Up: We need volunteers to help set-up the course Start and Finish areas before the races start. This requires early arrival.

Tear-Down: We need volunteers to help tear down course Start and Finish areas when race has finished
